About the Role:

A Deli/Bakery Director oversees all operations within the Deli and Bakery departments across multiple stores. This role is responsible for managing procurement, merchandising, and product presentation, ensuring quality, efficiency, and profitability.

The Director will supervise and support store management to meet departmental goals while developing strategies that align with company standards and customer expectations, driving sales and enhancing customer experience.

This position requires ensuring a positive company image by providing courteous, friendly, and efficient service to customers and team members at all times.

Essential Functions:

  • Procurement and Vendor Relations:
    • Develop and manage relationships with suppliers to ensure quality, timely delivery, and cost-effective procurement.
    • Negotiate contracts and pricing with vendors, optimizing margins and securing favorable deals.
    • Monitor inventory levels across stores, adjusting procurement strategies to prevent shortages or overstocking.
    • Ensure product compliance with health and safety regulations.
  • Merchandising and Product Management:
    • Develop and implement merchandising strategies that increase sales, align with customer preferences, and differentiate deli/bakery offerings in the market.
    • Analyze sales data and market trends to introduce new products or refine existing offerings.
    • Collaborate with the marketing team to create appealing displays, packaging, and advertising for the deli and bakery.
  • Supervision and Store Support:
    • Lead, mentor, and develop deli and bakery management, as well as store management, providing them with the necessary resources, training, and support.
    • Conduct regular store visits for operational review, feedback, and compliance checks.
    • Establish performance goals and consistently monitor results to ensure standards are met.
    • Provide problem-solving support to store management, assisting in operational challenges.
  • Budget and Financial Management:
    • Develop annual budgets for the deli and bakery departments and implement cost control measures.
    • Evaluate and analyze departmental financial performance, identifying opportunities to enhance profitability and reduce waste.
    • Review and approve departmental expenditures, ensuring alignment with company goals and budgets.
  • Customer Satisfaction and Quality Assurance:
    • Ensure that all deli and bakery products meet high standards of quality and freshness.
    • Address customer feedback and resolve product-related issues in a timely manner to promote customer satisfaction.

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Food Management, or related field; equivalent experience may be considered.
  • Experience: Minimum of 7 years in deli/bakery operations, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
  • Skills: Strong background in procurement, merchandising, and vendor management; excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in data analysis, budgeting, and financial management.

Supervisory Responsibility:

  • Supervises the deli/bakery function across multiple locations.

Competencies:

  • Strong negotiation skills and knowledge of the food supply chain.
  • Deep understanding of customer trends in deli and bakery products.
  • Proven experience in managing and developing teams.
  • Ability to prioritize, manage multiple tasks, and adapt in a fast-paced environment.

Physical Requirements:

  • Lifting: Ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
  • Standing/Walking: Up to 8 hours per day.
  • Reaching: Up to 6 hours per day.

Travel Requirements:

  • Ability to travel to multiple store locations.
  • Independent and reliable local travel up to 75% of the time.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary: $140,000 - $160,000
  • Benefits: Comprehensive Benefits Packet
